IEC 60950-1 - Information technology equipment - Safety - Part 1: General requirements Scope This standard is applicable to mains-powered or battery-powered information technology equipment, including electrical business equipment and associated equipment, with a RATED VOLTAGE not exceeding 600 v.a CABLE DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM, regardless Of the SoUrCe Of power; This standard is also applicable to such information technology equipment:
- designed for use as telecommunication terminal equipment and TELECOMMUNICATION NETWORK infrastructure equipment, regardless of the source of power;
- designed and intended to be connected directly to, or used as infrastructure equipment in,
- designed to use the AC MAINS SUPPLY as a communication transmission medium (see note 4 of clause 6 and note 3 of clause 7).
This standard specifies requirements intended to reduce risks of fire, electric shock or injury for the OPERATOR and layman who may come into contact with the equipment and, where Specifically stated, for a SERVICE PERSON. This standard is intended to reduce such risks with respect to installed equipment, whether it consists of a system of interconnected units or independent units, subject to installing, operating and maintaining the equipment in the manner prescribed by the manufacturer. Normative references The following normative documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this part of IEC 60950. For dated references, subsequent amendments to, or revisions of, any of these publications do not apply. However, parties to agreements based on this part of IEC 60950 are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the normative documents indicated below. For undated references, the latest edition of the normative document referred to applies. Members of IEC and IS0 maintain registers of currently valid International Standards.
