Description:
The European body that develops and manages standards in telecommunications, ETSI is based in Sophia-Antipolis, near Nice, France. Among other things ETSI is responsible for protocols and transmission procedures in GSM and UMTS networks. In the digital cellular telecommunications sector, a European standardization committee, the ETSI, was set up in anticipation of the new European 'GSM' system, in order to lay down specific and exhaustive recommendations. All mobile telecommunications networks created in Europe since then have successfully followed these recommendations. Following this example, the European GSM specifications were adopted throughout the world. Over 770 manufacturing companies, network operators, universities and other organizations from 52 countries are members of ETSI. The following set of ESTI standards contains specifications pertinent to the field of fiber optics.
