Description:
In the field of information and communications technologies (ICT) in the United States, INCITS (pronounced "insights") is the primary advisory body on standardization.  The organization was formally known the X3 and NCITS.

INCITS technical committees review quality and compatibility issues for the storage, processing, transfer, display, management, organization, and retrieval of computerized data. INCITS serves as the American National Standards Institute's (ANSI) Technical Advisory Group for the Joint Technical Committee 1 (JTC 1) of the International Standards Organization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).  JTC 1 is responsible for international standardization in the field of information technology (IT).

INCITS standards documents include the widely referenced T10 for peripheral connection -- or small computer system interface (SCSI or "skuzzy"), T11 for X3T9.3 Fibre Channel storage networking, and T13, detailing advanced technology attachments (ATA) used for CD-ROMs and hard drives.

Overall, the INCITS collection covers a wide breadth of industry topics:

  • multimedia
  • intercommunication among devices and information systems
  • storage media
  • databases
  • security
  • programming languages
