Nokia, T-Mobile Test HSDPA in the U.K., the Netherlands, Germany
December 13, 2005
Nokia and T-Mobile completed High Speed Downlink Data Packet Access (HSDPA) calls using Nokia's 3G network technology. The calls were made in T-Mobile's live network in the U.K., the Netherlands and Germany.
The Nokia HSDPA solution is a software upgrade to the WCDMA 3G network that offers end users significantly faster download speeds - up to 1.8 Mbps in the first phase, compared to 384 Kbps on standard WCDMA 3G networks.
Operators upgrading their networks with HSDPA can take advantage of improved data rates and throughput, enhancing the efficiency of the network to support a higher number of users at a lower cost per user. HSDPA allows operators to provide enhanced end-user services at significantly lower cost per bit, according to Nokia.
