Bell Nordiq Group, Nortel Deal Expands High-Speed 1X Network

NorthernTel Mobility and Télébec Mobilité, managed by Bell Nordiq Group Inc., selected Nortel to expand their CDMA 2000 1X 3G network.
The contract includes Nortel CDMA 1X mobile switching equipment, base stations, software for service provisioning and professional services such as project management, radio frequency (RF) engineering, network engineering and network operations and management.
The network will deliver high-speed, broadband services to 490,000 subscribers across an approximately 830,000 square kilometer area in northern Québec and Ontario, Canada.
Nortel said the network expansion will allow NorthernTel Mobility and Télébec Mobilité to expand capacity and deliver superior voice quality. The expansion also supports advanced high-speed broadband multimedia services such as mobile Web, email, short messaging service, picture messaging, interactive gaming, access to corporate data and other multimedia applications.
