The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc. (IEEE) updated its Blue Book standard, a part of its Color Book standard series, which offers a comprehensive treatment on the use of circuit breakers in power systems.
This standard, IEEE 1015 - Recommended Practice for Applying Low-Voltage Circuit Breakers Used in Industrial and Commercial Power Systems, considers common classes of breakers and is designed to help engineers decide which ones are best for specific situations.
The volume provides systematic procedures for selecting and applying breakers at various locations in a power system, such as service entrances, mains, feeders, motors and motor control centers, transformers, capacitors, generators, switchboards and starters.
It covers such topics as:
- Ratings.
- Accessories.
- Acceptance.
- Performance testing.
- Maintenance.
It also summarizes the application sections of various circuit breaker standards so engineers can compare them.
