The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) released ATIS 0800015 - Certificate Trust Management Hierarchy and ATIS 0800016 - Standard PKI Certificate Format, which address managing sensitive information in an Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) environment.
To prevent loss or theft of service, executable software must be authenticated before it is allowed to run on IPTV receiving devices.
The ATIS Certificate Trust Management Hierarchy standard helps to thwart security threats by establishing the authenticity of information before delivering it to receiving devices, said ATIS.
"Ensuring the secure transmission of live broadcast video, content on demand and interactive TV options is critical if IPTV is to successfully reach its market potential," said Susan Miller, president and CEO of ATIS.
"These two new security solutions standards are keys to creating the trustworthy environment needed to move IPTV to widespread deployment."
The standards were created by the ATIS IPTV Interoperability Forum (IIF).
In developing this standard, the IIF detailed requirements that establish a trust relationship between relevant business entities for the generation, distribution and revocation of public key infrastructure (PKI) certificates. The certificate hierarchy is the basis for PKI operations between client-side and server-side elements.
The ATIS Standard PKI Certificate Format defines the specifications for the interoperability of systems and components in the IPTV architecture, specifically the IPTV security solution (ISS) with respect to standard PKI certificate format.
