GS1 Hong Kong and Wal-Mart are teaming to create a program to drive adoption of electronic product code/radio frequency identification (EPC/RFID) technology in Foshan, China.

The program is designed to enhance the efficiencies of import/export activities between the Pearl River Delta (PRD) and the global market using EPC/RFID technologies, said GS1 Hong Kong.

The Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) reports approximately 60,000 Hong Kong-based manufacturing facilities operated in the PRD.

The partnership will equip Foshan with EPC/RFID infrastructure, said GS1 Hong Kong.

Wal-Mart will share its RFID implementation experience with its suppliers in Foshan and provide support to their trading partners.

This cooperation will help providers use EPC data to solve business challenges, help with marketing and promotion programs and launch new products, said GS1 Hong Kong.
