The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) launched projects to create standards for local area networks (LANs) and C++ language interfaces and reaffirmed a standard guiding concept of operations documents.

The IEEE began work on IEEE P1733 - Standard for Layer 3 Transport Protocol for Time Sensitive Applications in Local Area Networks.

This standard will facilitate interoperability between stations that stream time-sensitive audio and/or video across bridged and routed LANs providing time synchronization and latency/bandwidth services by defining the packet format and stream setup, control, synchronization and teardown protocols by leveraging Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) family of protocols and IEEE 802.1 audio video bridging (AVB) protocols.

The IEEE also began work on IEEE P1003.27 - Standard for Information Technology - POSIX C++ Language Interfaces - Binding for System Application Program Interface (API).

This standard will provide a single, recommended method to allow portable C++ applications to make use of the Portable Operating System Interface (POSIX) standard interfaces, which will help to discourage the diverging practices in the industry that lead to poor design choices, inefficiencies and incompatibilities.

The IEEE also reaffirmed IEEE 1362-1998 - IEEE Guide for Information Technology - System Definition - Concept of Operations (ConOps) Document. A ConOps is a user-oriented document that describes system characteristics for a proposed system from the users' viewpoint.

The ConOps document is used to communicate the overall quantitative and qualitative system characteristics to the user, buyer, developer and other organizational elements such as training, facilities, staffing and maintenance.

It is used to describe the user organization(s), mission(s) and organizational objectives from an integrated systems point of view.
