The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) published TIA 1091 - IMS Security Framework, which defines the features and mechanisms necessary to ensure access to third generation (3G) broadband technologies for delivering Internet Protocol (IP) multimedia applications.
3G wireless broadband services are deployed over the IP Multimedia Core Network Subsystem (IMS) and use Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) as the signaling protocol for creating and terminating multimedia sessions with the subscriber’s mobile device.
To ensure security, TIA 1091 defines how the SIP signaling is protected between the subscriber and the IMS framework, how the subscriber is authenticated and how the subscriber authenticates the IMS.
TIA 1091 was formulated under the cognizance of TIA TR-45 Mobile and Personal Communications Systems.
