The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) formed the Next Generation Carrier Interconnect (NG-CI) task force to define a testing environment and verifiable tests to achieve service-specific interconnection between two carriers.
The task force will initially focus on voice-over-Internet protocol (VoIP) interconnection, with multimedia and other IP-based services also on the agenda.
The group was formed within the ATIS Packet Technologies and Systems Committee (PTSC).
The PTSC NG-CI task force will develop IP network-to-network interconnection guidelines based on ATIS standards to provide:
- Physical configuration.
- Protocol suite profiles.
- Operational information to be exchanged between carriers.
- Test suites for conformance and interoperability testing.
"The Next Generation Carrier Interconnect Task Force’s ultimate goal is to simplify the carrier interconnection process irrespective of the service running over the interconnection," said Bhumip Khasnabish, chairman of the PTSC NG-CI.
"By accomplishing this, we will allow for interconnected networks to successfully deliver tomorrow’s robust data applications.”
