IEEE 1652 Addresses Acoustic Telephony Measurements
February 19, 2009 // Published as a news service by IHS
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) approved IEEE 1652 - Standard for the Application of Free Field Acoustic Reference to Telephony Measurements, which provides the techniques and rationale for referencing acoustic telephony measurements to the free field.
IEEE 1652 is designed to help designers and manufacturers produce telephone terminals and, where appropriate, integrate them with other electroacoustic systems, according to IEEE.
The standard is designed to create a common acoustic reference point for comparing the electroacoustic performance of handset, headset, hands-free and other kinds of telephone terminals.
The standard also helps compare telephone terminals with other devices such as loudspeakers, mobile communication devices, multimedia terminals and consumer audio equipment.
IEEE 1652 was developed by the Subcommittee on Telephone Instrument Testing and sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society Transmission Access & Optical Systems Committee.
