IEEE Group Seeks Use Cases for Cognitive Radio Standard IEEE P1900.5
April 12, 2009 // Published as a news service by IHS
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Standards Association (IEEE-SA) issued a call for high-priority use case contributions and descriptions of available languages and language technologies for an in-development standard, IEEE P1900.5 - Standard on Policy Language and Policy Architectures for Managing Cognitive Radio for Dynamic Spectrum Access Applications.
The IEEE P1900.5 Working Group, a group of IEEE SCC41, is developing a policy language standard for the management of dynamic spectrum access networks. The language will address all roles in the value chain and all market segments.
To ground its efforts and form the basis for documenting requirements, the working group is assembling a set of use cases and will compile all responses to this request.
As a parallel effort, the working group is also compiling descriptions of available languages and language technologies that might provide a basis for this standard. The proposed languages and technologies will be analyzed in the context of the use cases and a standard proposed.
Use cases should be in the following format:
Requested items:
- Scenario - A narrative description not to exceed 1,000 words. This scenario should include a machine entity, such as actor, that makes critical decisions and takes appropriate actions, based upon information represented in a policy language for which the P1900.5 Working Group is defining requirements.
- Functional description - A bulleted item list of the components involved and their functions in the use case.
- An actors diagram - Can be text listing of the actor in the use case or optionally a Unified Modeling Language (UML) actors diagram.
- A time line - A step-by-step bullet item description of all actions by the actors in the use case.
Optional items:
Language contributions should be in the following format: Requested items:
- A brief description up to 1,000 words of the language or language technology, which might be useful in this effort.
- An extension of up to 1,000 words if the language or language technology needs to be extended to meet the expected requirements.
- A description of the likely time and resources required to complete those extensions if the language or language technology needs to be extended to meet the expected requirements.
All submissions can be submitted via the working group web site. The site also contains details and submission guidelines.
