The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) P1901 Working Group approved the first draft of its standard related to broadband over power lines (BPL), IEEE 1901 - Draft Standard for Broadband over Power Line Networks: Medium Access Control and Physical Layer Specifications.
At a recent meeting, the IEEE working group agreed with more than an 82% majority vote to convert the working specifications into the first IEEE P1901 BPL draft standard and to conduct a vote on whether the draft is ready to go to sponsor ballot.
The draft is based on technologies using flexible time triggered and wavelet orthogonal-frequency-division multiplexing modulation schemes.
According to IEEE, the draft also provides integration with other communication media such as Wi-Fi and Ethernet.
IEEE P1901 is sponsored by the standards committee of the IEEE Communications Society.
