IEEE to Revise Software Life Cycle Reuse Standard - IEEE P1517

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) will revise the 1999 standard, IEEE P1517 - Standard for Information Technology - System and Software Life Cycle Processes - Reuse Processes.

According to IEEE, the project will match IEEE P1517 with the scope and substance of IEEE 12207 - Standard for Information Technology-Software Life Cycle Processes, which was revised in 2008.

The scope of the specified processes in IEEE P1517 is broader than that of IEEE 12207 because reuse activities transcend the life cycle of any particular system. The specified processes are suitable on an organization-wide basis, according to IEEE.

IEEE also began work to adopt three standards:
