The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc. (IEEE) approved IEEE 1368 - Guide for Aeolian Vibration Field Measurements of Overhead Conductors, which will help utility engineers better understand the devices and methods used to measure aeolian vibration in overhead conductors.
It also approved a revision to IEEE 404 - Standard for Extruded and Laminated Dielectric Shielded Cable Joints Rated 2500 V - 500000 V to harmonize the standard with appropriate international standards addressing extruded and laminated dielectric shielded cable joints.
The revision incorporates new design tests, quality control requirements, metallic shielding performance criteria and temperature and current rating criteria.
This revision ensures cable joint designs work with the latest industry accepted cable designs.
The revision also harmonizes IEEE 404 with appropriate international standards and extends requirements to voltage classes not covered by other standards.
