The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) revised two standards for the installation, maintenance and sizing of lead-acid batteries in photovoltaic systems.
IEEE 937 - Recommended Practice for Installation and Maintenance of Lead-Acid Batteries for Photovoltaic (PV) Systems was updated to reflect changes in installation and maintenance practices and in related standards.
IEEE 937 addresses such considerations as the storage, location, mounting, ventilation, assembly, safety and care of lead-acid batteries in residential, commercial and industrial PV power systems.
It was developed for use by system designers, installers and owners.
IEEE 1013 - Recommended Practice for Sizing Lead-Acid Batteries for Stand-Alone Photovoltaic (PV) Systems was revised to make it specific to stand-alone PV systems and to add changes reflecting field experience.
This standard helps system designers analyze how design-parameter changes affect the size of vented and valve-regulated lead-acid batteries in PV power systems. It is designed to allow them to strike an acceptable compromise between cost and performance.
These standards are sponsored by IEEE Standards Coordinating Committee 21 for Fuel Cells, Photovoltaics, Dispersed Generation and Energy Storage.
