WLAN Standard IEEE 802.11w to Address Signaling Security Mechanisms

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Standards Board ratified IEEE 802.11w-2009 to address escalating security demands placed on wireless local area networks (WLANs) by providing enhanced protection to management frames.
IEEE 802.11w-2009 is an amendment to base standard IEEE 802.11.
The full title of the amendment is IEEE 802.11w-2009 - Standard for Information Technology-Telecommunications and Information Exchange between systems-Local and Metropolitan networks-Specific requirements-Part 11: Wireless LAN Medium Access Control (MAC) and Physical Layer (PHY) specifications: Protected Management Frames Amendment.
IEEE 802.11w defines enhancements such as data integrity, data origin authenticity, replay protection and data confidentiality.
